Central Eurasian Studies Society Annual Conference 2023
The Center for Governance and Markets will host the Annual Conference for CESS 2023, which will be held at the University of Pittsburgh from October 19-22, 2023. The CESS 2023 annual conference keynote speaker is Dr. Ayşe Zarakol, author of After Defeat: How the East Learned to Live with the West and Before the West: the Rise and Fall of Eastern World Orders.
Registration
To register, please visit here. Pitt faculty, staff, and students are invited to use the discounted Pitt rate for registrations. If you qualify, click on the button provided and select in-person participation, non-member, with annual income <$75K options. Enter UPitt in the Voucher code, and the registration fee will be discounted to $50. Virtual AND in-person participation will remain possible.
Non-Pitt participants are encouraged to use the regular rates for members and non-members set by CESS.

Transportation
Transportation To and From Airport: Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is the primary airport serving the greater Pittsburgh area. The address is 1000 Airport Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15231.
Bus: There is a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus route to and from the airport called the 28X, and its schedule is available here.
Driving: Take I-376 East from the airport through the Fort Pitt Tunnel to exit 72A. Continue onto Forbes Avenue to arrive on the University of Pittsburgh Campus.
Uber/Lyft: Most major ride share companies, including Uber and Lyft, are available for ride requests from the airport. They are available from Door 4 near the baggage claim area.

All CESS Conference hotels are located a short (<10 minute) walk from Pitt's campus.
Parking on Pitt’s Campus
We do not recommend driving to campus. However, if you do, there is daily parking at the Soldiers and Sailors Garage (4390 Bigelow Blvd), which is a 5 minute walk to the conference events. There is also a limited amount of metered street parking.
Transportation in Pittsburgh City
Pittsburgh has an excellent public transportation system that can get you almost anywhere in the city. Check out Pittsburgh Regional Transit for bus and rail schedules.
Internet
Pitt Guest Wi-Fi provides access for alumni, parents, and others. It does not require a password or a University-affiliated sponsor access.
When you arrive on campus, connect your device to the network named Pitt Guest Wi-Fi. Read the Terms of Use and click Accept. You will be connected and redirected to the University's main website.
