The Plight of the Uyghur Muslims in China: A Cultural Genocide

Mihrigul Tursun is a survivor of the camps in Xinjiang. She is originally from Kuerle City, Xinjiang in Western China. In 2018, she testified before the Congressional-Executive Commission on China about her experience over a series of three internments in "re-education camps" in Xinjiang.

 

Nury Turkel is the co-founder and Chair of the Uyghur Human Rights Council and serves as a Commissioner to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom. He holds a Master of Arts in International Relations and a Juris Doctor degree, both from American University. Turkel assists Uyghur refugees in the US, Europe, and Turkey. He has played a key role in efforts to release and resettle Uyghurs wrongfully detained in Guantanamo Bay. 

 

Sean Roberts is Associate Professor and Director of the International Development Program at the Elliot School of International Affairs, George Washington University. His research focuses on China's development of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. His new book, The War on the Uyghurs: China's Internal Campaign against a Muslim Minority, was recently published by Princeton University Press.
