Zakia Moufid

Zakia Moufid is a Student Research Associate at Center for Governance and Markets. She was born and raised in Morocco, and is a development scholar and researcher currently pursuing her master’s in international development from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. In her research capacity, she conducts in-depth literature reviews and significantly contributes to projects emphasizing community-driven development and traditional authority. Her recent notable works, such as research on the Millennium Development Goals in Africa and residential segregation in post-Apartheid South Africa, echo her commitment to understanding and mitigating global development challenges. 

Additionally, Moufid has also been recognized by the Merit-Scholarship Award. Moufid's experience also includes a stint with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Rabat where she led the establishment of a financial aid program for refugees, and played a significant role in the COVID-19 vaccination campaign for the refugee populace. With a regional focus on the socio-economic dynamics of Northern Africa, Moufid is fluent in Arabic, French, English, and Spanish. Her collaborations with preeminent organizations in Morocco signify her passion for hands-on community-driven development.
